The Dubai Metro began operating on September 9, 2009 , becoming the first urban train service in the Arabian Peninsula. The metro network consists of two lines, the Red Line and the Green Line, covering a total of  89.6 kilometers .

The Dubai Metro is managed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and carries more than 400,000 passengers a day . With its successful inauguration, it has registered more than 100 million passengers in its first year of operation. Passenger numbers are expected to increase in the future. The trains run at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour . Construction of the subway began in 2006 and took three years to complete. The first line, the Red Line, opened in September 2009.

How the Dubai Metro works

The Dubai Metro is a driverless electric train system that operates on two main lines: the Red Line and the Green Line, although it is planned to expand the network with two new lines: blue and purple . The trains run at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour and are capable of transporting up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.

Our advice

Like all means of transport, you may find stations full during busy hours, therefore we advise avoiding stations between 6 and 8 in the morning and between 5 and 7 in the afternoon.

By paying a little more you can use the Gold Class carriages and remember that eating and drinking is prohibited. If you need to connect to the internet, of course you won’t have any problems since there is a free Wi-Fi connection.
